A  Daisy Of An Idea

How to make the daisy pattern. Make a circle (the size of a CD works well).  Make 8 petals.  They can be long and narrow or short and fat.  The basic daisy has a yellow center and white petals, but use whatever colors you want.  A variety of color looks nice for display.

This Daisy Pattern can be used for many activities throughout the school year.  Here are some ideas and you can add your own,

  1. About Me: Have students put their name in the middle of the daisy and then write about themselves on the eight petals.
  2. Goals: Have students write "GOALS" in the center daisy and then write what they would like to accomplish during the school year, the summer, etc.  Goals could include: school work, hobbies, sports, behaviors, etc.
  3. Theme Daisies: These Daisies can be used to display facts about themes studied in the spring.  (Make them Sunflowers in the Fall).  For example:  A theme unit on plants...Write "What I know about plants in the center and facts about plants in the petals.  This can apply to any theme.
  4. Friendship Daisy:  Students write about friendship.  Friendship is...could be in the center.  Petals describe what student feels are important characteristics of friendship.
  5. Mother's Day: Make Mom happy with a daisy for her.  Write MOM in the center of the daisy and then have the students write about all the great things mom does for them and why they love her.
  6. Birthday Card:  Make a card for classmates.  Write Happy Birthday in the middle and have the rest of the class sign the petals.
  7. Phonic/Spelling:  Write the skill in the center of the daisy and have students come up with examples to put on the petals.  Display for students to read and reinforce their learning.  For example:  Put "I before E except after C" in the center.  Then have students write spelling words that follow that rule.
  8. Reading Choices: Students write "Books I have read" in the center of the daisy.  On the petals they write the title and author of the books they have read.
