Make a Kwanzaa mat  

You will need:

1. Construction Paper in Red, Green and Black
2. Scissors
3. Glue

Directions.

Cut Strips of red and green paper about 1" or 3cm lengthwise.
Fold the black paper lengthwise (hotdog fold).  Cut into the fold until you get to about 2 inches from the outer edge.
Continue to cut into the fold about 1" apart.
Open the black paper carefully so as not to break the middle strips.
Begin weaving by taking one red strip and weaving over, under, over, under, across the black paper. 
Second Row:  Begin with a green strip and start weaving the opposite of the last row. Under, over, under, etc.
Continue until the mat is complete.  Glue loose edges.
