May Writing Ideas
- Take a nature walk, write all the things you
see and hear. Use these words to write a poem.
- Write about all your accomplishments this school year! Make a
scrapbook or portfolio of your best work.
- Chirp, tweet, caw, meow, and other
sounds are made by animals. Make a list of these words and use them to
add interest to your writing.
- Similes are comparisons using like
and as. For example: I am as
happy as a clam, or My kite is like a
bird soaring through the sky. Write similes about yourself and
your interests.
- Think about your favorite book. Write about things in the book that
are like you and things that are different than you.
- Begin a journal for spring and summer. Write your thoughts and
ideas. Pick a shape book
pattern and make a journal that fits you!
- Spring is a time for baby animals. Make a list of animals and write
the baby animal name next to it. For example: Sheep/lamb.
- Think of a character in a book you have read. Describe in detail
what you think that character looks like. Read the description to a
friend and have them draw that person.
- Write postcards to all the people that have helped you succeed this year.
(Parents, friends, teachers, etc.)
- Think of something new you would like to learn about. Use research
cards to help you investigate.
