Rubbings
(A rubbing transfers the pattern from 3 dimensional object onto paper.)

Materials Needed

Plain paper,

tape,

dark crayons (take wrapper of crayon),

three dimensional objects around your house, such as, comb, ribbon, string. coins, keys, feathers, paper plate, toothpicks, leaves, pipe cleaners, et cetera.

Just about anything will work that you can place a piece of paper over.

Directions:

  1. Arrange your objects anyway you want.
  2. Tape paper over objects.
  3. Using the broad side of the crayon, lightly rub the surface of the paper. Your image will start to appear.
  4. Rub back and forth with short strokes and work top to bottom or side to side. Don't press too hard or the paper will tear.
  5.  Use different color crayons. You'll be surprised how interesting this will turn out.

This will work for just about any age group as long as they can hold a crayon and rub back and forth.

Of course, with little children,
adult supervision is needed.
