This unit helps develop comprehension skills and enhances the vocabulary found in Harry and Wendy Devlin's story of a man who never got a Valentine...and his secret admirer.
A medium-skill-level craft activity that uses stiffened string to make a dimensional heart shape; students then decorate their hearts with beads (pictures included) to make wall hangings.
The uppercase letters of the alphabet, presented in black outline, filled with small hearts. Four letters to a page. Great for bulletin boards, desk decorations, and more.
A simple craft in which students cut out heart shapes (pattern included) and then back cut-out areas with tissue paper to make window decorations. Activity can be done with craft knives, which require close adult supervision and assistance.
An easier Valentine's themed can for storing candy (or pencils, or other goodies). This project is time-intensive (1 hour) but the results are fabulous.
[member-created with abctools] Trace and cut out. From "candy" to "love", each page of this heart-shaped shapebook has a word relating to Valentine's Day. Makes a great bulletin board decoration.
A more complex craft wherein students use fabric and iron-on fusible interfacing to create a charming wall hanging. This project also teaches very basic needlework. Adult assistance required.
