  • Comprehension: The Months - January (elementary/ upper elementary)
    Where did this month get its name? What is it called in other countries? Does it have special flowers or stones associated with it? Learn the answers to these questions, plus room for writing about your feelings about the month.

  • Spelling: January (primary)
    From "boots" to "snowman". A list of ten January-themed spelling words, then practice pages including a page for copying the words, ABC order, a word search, word scramble, spelling test, and room to draw a picture for the month.

  • Writing Prompt: My Journal - January (middle school)
    Start the new year with our journal series, with writing prompts designed to get even the most reluctant writers producing thoughtful reflections. This month has several "floating" lessons, good for any day of the month, to work flexibly into the "post holiday" crunch. Lined pages for answers.

  • Biography: Martin Luther King, Jr. (elementary)
    A ten page biographical unit on the civil rights leader, with short reading comprehensions, a crossword puzzle, and a word search.

  • Story Starter: Martin Luther King, Jr. (primary)
    A picture to color and space to write a very short story with theme words from a Word Bank about Martin Luther King, Jr., who was born on January 15th.

  • Writing Prompt: Martin Luther King, Jr. (elem)
    Writing prompt about Martin Luther King and peace.

  • Unit: Australia (elementary)
    This multi-task unit features a word search, vocabulary builders, reading comprehensions, and math problems, all against the backdrop of the smallest continent, with its rich history and exciting life.

  • Craft: Groundhog Day (primary)
    Cut out the groundhog and the burrow. Attach the groundhog to a popsicle stick and "pop" him through the hole. Does he see his shadow?

  • Fiction: Wake Up Call for Phil! (elementary)
    "Phil the ground hog had been sleeping in his snug underground burrow since November." A fictional reading comprehension for Groundhog Day.

  • Writing Paper: Groundhog Day
    "Describe what the weather is like where you live." Lined paper with writing prompt and cute illustration of a groundhog.
