New Materials

• Book: Miss Rumphius (primary/elem)
  Writing and drawing prompts to review Barbara Cooney's popular story of a woman who wanted to make the world a more beautiful place. This ties in nicely with Earth Day or with a citizenship unit.


• Booklet: This Rain Is Insane (primary)
  Jane said, "I hate this weather. Ten straight days of rain. Let's all hope it will change soon or I'll go insane."


• Comprehension: Geothermal Energy (upper elem/middle)
  Short answer, multiple choice, and essay questions to review factual understanding and general comprehension of biofuels. An adapted text is provided or students can do their own research.


• Experiment: Greenhouse Effect (upper elem)
  Create a greenhouse effect with glass jars in order to understand global warming.


• Experiment: Life in a Jar (upper elem/middle)
  In this one-month experiment, students will learn about the different interactions between organisms that are part of maintaining a healthy, thriving ecosystem by putting selected items into a jar of pond water and observing the reactions.
