The History of the Peace Circle Click photo to enlarge Our Peace Circle began in 1989 to help the children and staff understand the importance of emulating peace through their attitude and behavior at school. The children gather in the gym each Monday for fifteen minutes. The children sit in circles around the gym. In the center of the circles are the American and Michigan flags and a Peace Pole. "Let There be Peace on Earth," is written on the four sides in English, Native American, Japanese, and Danish. We begin Peace Circle with the Pledge and end with the song, "Let There be Peace on Earth." Since 1989 we have honored students and their accomplishments, outstanding community leaders, staff members, parents, and special events. However the message remains the same as it was in 1989. Our Peace Circle still represents a peaceful gathering of children, parents, guests, and staff who want to emphasize the importance of practicing peace at our school, in our community, and in our world.
